How a portrait session works

If you aren’t in front of a camera regularly, a professional photo shoot can be a bit daunting.

We get it. Many of our clients ask us what to expect before they come to our studio, so we’ve put together some information to give you an idea of how everything works, from the moment you arrive for your shoot to the delivery of your final images.

• You walk through the door

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your appointment so everything can run on time. We’ll give you a chance to check hair and makeup, and prepare for your session.

Before the session starts, we’ll chat to you about what you’ll use the photos for, who you work with and your personal style, so we can tailor the session to your requirements.

• The session starts

We’re all about relaxed, natural portraits which reflect your personality; no stiff school photos here.

We like to have a laugh during the session to generate a friendly atmosphere. While we’re chatting and joking, we’ll be snapping away capturing relaxed, candid portraits.

To give variety in your images, it’s good to change things up throughout the session. This can be achieved with an outfit change or two , or, if the weather’s nice, we might even go outside for part of your session.

• Selecting your images

We’ll upload the best images from your portrait session to a private online gallery and send you a link and password, then it’s up to you to select your images. Remember to pick a variety of different looks for different platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook, website, etc).

A second opinion can be helpful at this stage, so you might like to send the gallery details to a good friend for their advice.

• Image delivery

Once you’ve made your selection we’ll take the images into Photoshop for some light retouching. Don’t worry, we don’t do 80s glam—just natural, polished images. You can read more about our retouching approach.

When your images are finished we’ll provide them as high resolution files (for print) and low resolution (for online use).
