What do you do?
I run a web design & SEO company, Static Shift – a small team spread around the world that specialises in getting travel & accommodation businesses more bookings and enquiries and in growing their business online.
Tell me about how you got into your field.
I did a business degree at uni and worked on a couple of websites and the marketing for my own entrepreneurial projects before realising I had a knack for web design & SEO, and really enjoyed it. I did a couple of projects for friends or colleagues and things just took off from there.
Why did you choose to have professional profile photos taken and what will you use your portraits for?
I got sick of using a couple of old self-taken profile photos in my LinkedIn profile, my Twitter, my email signature, and all my other online profiles including on my own website. The photo was unnatural and didn’t capture who I was, or the feel of my business. I will use the portraits to replace all of my online profile images.
Why did you choose to hire Lizzy C Photography?
I’ve been wanting to get professional profile photos done for a long time, but being un-photogenic, and uncomfortable in front of the camera meant I kept putting it off. The other major issue for me is I didn’t want those stock standard, stiff photos that look unnatural…My friends see what ends up scattered across the internet for my business profiles too, and I don’t want them having a laugh at me trying to be “Mr Professional”. One day I decided to see if I could find a photographer that specialises in natural profile shots. I looked through a bunch of photographer portfolios, but the shots in Lizzy C’s portfolio were the only ones I came across that looked really natural and relaxed. I was also surprised at how well priced it was considering the quality. I knew that if I was ever going to get some done, it would be with her. I signed up to the email list but put it off for a while. Months went by, until finally I decided I couldn’t go any longer with my horrible profile photos, and booked in a session!
Tell us about your experience working with her. Were you happy with the results of your photo shoot?
I was super nervous when I headed to the studio for my session. But just as I came to expect from what i read and saw before booking in, I was quickly put at ease. Liz has a great sense of humour and she made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Whenever I started to get uncomfortable and looking anxious, or my smile started feeling fake, she would make me laugh and I could put on a real smile again. The results of the photo shoot were just what I hoped for. Professional, but natural and relaxed. Perfect for my online business profiles! (Hopefully I won’t cop too much flak from my mates either)
