“She creates realistic, relaxed and creative portraits, which remain professional at the same time, without being stuffy.” – Rose
An interview with Entrepreneaur Rose Frankcomb about what she does and her experience working with Lizzy C.
What do you do? Tell us a bit about what you do.
I am Director of my own company which specialises in sourcing and importing quality homewares, fashion and lifestyle accessories, and outdoor products from markets across the world before delivery to end user. Included in this is the design, production and branding of product before managing the logistics of international freight for final delivery. This recent move into entrepreneurship is allowing me to take the experience I have gathered in fashion from the bigger end of town, and form my own company ..with less of a fashion focus.
It is both exciting and challenging and puts me back-in-the-drivers-seat of my own future so to speak.
Why did you choose to hire Lizzy C Photography?
I immediately loved Lizzy’s approach to portraiture whereby she creates realistic, relaxed and creative portraits, which remain professional at the same time, without being “stuffy”. It was also important for me to see personality behind any images created – Lizzy’s style appealed greatly and she then delivered over and above with lots of laughs along the way.
Tell us about your experience working with her. Were you happy with the results of your shoot?
I was thrilled with the results – it had been too many years since I’d sat in front of a camera for any length of time so I was both nervous as well as excited! Lizzy soon managed to relax me and we had lots of laughs – including sipping water as if the best G&T going!! While the weather was against us on the day and we were kept indoors, it was of no consequence as the studio images came up beautifully. Lizzy had several sittings/settings which resulted in a broad range of looks – so much so that I then found it difficult to choose the final pics!! I also took along a couple of my own props which Lizzy was more than happy to include in compositions.
I would strongly recommend Lizzy C for anyone considering professional portraiture, and I would use her again in a heartbeat!!
Tell me about how you got into your field.
I grew up in the country and as a child I always loved to sew and design – so when I left school my first choice was to study Fashion and Design. It was my love of both fashion and the country lifestyle that led me to work in a leading tailor, then as a jillaroo in the outback, before starting my own fashion label form the country all while in my 20’s. That business was in the pre-internet days of “mail order catalogues” where I would bribe my friends with clothing as reward for modelling in my photo shoots!! Needless to say, it has been a long time since I was “on location” myself – and full credit goes to Lizzy C for handling my apprehension and nerves!!
In my 30’s I moved to Melbourne to ‘chase dreams’ and work in my beloved Fashion Industry. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work across many interesting and varied businesses with talented people both here and abroad – casual, urban, swim, sleep, silk, leather, corporate wear and sporting apparel, and no two days were ever the same. The buzz and pace of fashion was exciting and my shallow passion for many years. My focus more recently has been on Production and Operations of goods largely out of Asia, Europe minor with delivery to retailers, customers, celebs (their addresses remain confidential!!) and even Olympic teams across the world.
Today’s world of off-shore manufacturing and virtual offices are a great example of what can be achieved by connecting the right teams regardless of location, and I am utilising this fully in my new venture. Exciting times ahead!
What is the best piece of career advice you were ever given?
While in year 12 at school we were told to “do what you love” and this resonated deeply as I chose to work hard, but also to be very happy doing it – for life is too short for anything less. In addition, throughout my working life I have always had to “find solutions” and lean the power of negotiation – every problem has a solution and though it may not be what you expect, when roadblocks force different directions, it exists and is out there to be found. Both lessons have served me well.
Why did you choose to have professional profile photos taken and what will you use your portraits for?
I needed professional images taking for my company website which is/will be the shopfront and sourcing platform to my business as it operates across the global stage. I decided to go with Lizzy as her “shooting style” stuck a cord with me and the packages she offer were appealing too. The great thing about receiving an assortment of images is that I can use them all individually across the many platforms of websites, social media, LinkedIn and other related professional activities in future. I love that from my portfolio I can select the most appropriate picture to meet requirements.o
