I recently photographed Kunal, a specialist prosthodontist. A dental specialty which focuses on complex restorative and cosmetic cases. Or as he explains it, a dental architect. I’ve photographed Kunal’s colleague Gordon numerous times over the years so Kunal came to us recommended by him.
I asked Kunal to tell us a bit about himself and how he found the experience of having his professional photo taken in our Melbourne studio.
Tell me about how you got into your field.
After working in general dental practice for a few years, I found that I was fascinated by the more challenging cases but I felt it was essential to first gain the relevant knowledge and experience before taking the step of treating patients with these complex issues. So I embarked on my prosthodontic training at Melbourne University and have been in restricted specialist practice since.
What is the best piece of career advice you’ve received?
The best career advice I received was from a trainer at the gym! He said not to concentrate on the results and instead to concentrate on the work and the results will come as a matter of course.
Why did you choose to have professional profile photos taken and what will you use your portraits for?
As a specialist, you get asked to give lectures on various topics and to various groups of practitioners. I realised recently when sending my bio through to one of the organisers that I have in fact aged (a bit) since my last profile photos were taken and so I needed to update. Lizzy came recommended by a colleague and she was a pleasure to work with.
Tell us about your experience working with Lizzy. Were you happy with the results of your shoot?
Liz made me feel relaxed in what is quite an awkward, unatural setting. Her work was very professional and I found the process streamlined.
