I recently had the opportunity to conduct a professional photography session for Surgeon, Dr. Lee and his colleagues at the Epworth Hospital. Dr Lee is an endocrine surgeon with nearly 15 years of experience. Dr. Lee treats both cancerous and non-cancerous conditions, and works closely with patients who are still uncertain about their treatment options. Our session was designed to reflect his professional yet compassionate nature.

During our conversation, Dr. Lee shared some insights into his career and the importance of online presentation. He explained that for many prospective patients, their first interaction with a doctor is through these images, which is why he felt it was so important for his portraits to reflect both his professionalism and approachable personality. It was a pleasure to work with him, and I’m excited to share the results of our session and some reflections on the process in this interview.

What do you do? Tell us a bit about what you do.

I am an endocrine surgeon with special interests in treating patients who may need surgery for their thyroid, parathyroid or adrenal glands. These may include cancerous or non-cancerous conditions. I also see patients who are not yet sure if surgery is a good option for the conditions with which they have been diagnosed either by their GP, endocrinologists or other specialists.

Tell me about how you got into your field.

To be an endocrine surgeon, I was first trained as a general surgeon via the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons training program. Following that, I undertook 2 more years of fellowship training in endocrine surgery, as well as 3 more years of PhD research on biomarkers for thyroid cancer. I have been in practice as an endocrine surgeons for over nearly 15 years, and have established an international reputation through publications in international journals and speaking in international conferences.

What is the best piece of career advice you’ve received?

Pursue a career that you are passionate about and find harmony in everything you do.

Why did you choose to have professional photos taken and what will you use your portraits for?

Prospective patients often look up their doctors online. I think it is important for my patients to get a good sense of whether I would be a good fit for them. Therefore, it was really important for me that my professionalism and personality come through in these photos.

Why did you choose to hire Lizzy C Photography?

I had seen her work on other medical websites, and thought they gave a good sense of the characters of the doctors.

Tell us about your experience working with her. Were you happy with the results of your professional photography session?

I am extremely happy with the results, and Lizzy made the entire process very easy. She has a way of making me feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera, in order the capture images of me in my usual work environment.
